PassMark Software Releases PerformanceTest Version 7

Comprehensive benchmarking suite independently measures all aspects of computing performance

SYDNEY, Australia - February 25, 2009 - PassMark® Software today announced the release of Version 7 of PerformanceTest™, a computer benchmarking solution enabling the objective comparison of PCs. Among other new features, the latest version of PerformanceTest introduces a new 3D test enabling benchmarks of DirectX 10 compatible video cards and an innovative user interface which dynamically communicates system information to users.

With a single mouse-click, users can obtain the PassMark Rating, a unique performance rating for a machine's configuration used to conduct computing comparisons. The PassMark Rating is calculated from a machine's performance over six test suites, comprised of twenty-eight unique tests designed to cover all aspects of computing performance.

By objectively assessing the performance of computers and their components, PerformanceTest can facilitate informed purchasing decisions by users, saving money and time spent on research. As a performance analysis tool, PerformanceTest can provide an in-depth appraisal of hardware behaviour through the creation of customizable test scenarios.

PerformanceTest comes with a number of built-in baselines for machine comparison, but also grants users access to one of the world's largest databases of comparison data. "New with the release of version 7, all users - even those on evaluation licenses - have access to search, download and save comparison baselines from our database at PassMark.com," said David Wren, Managing Director, PassMark Software.

Version 7 of PerformanceTest showcases a new Visualized Physics engine which gives users a chance to experiment with a range of customizable environmental settings such as gravity, air resistance and explosions. "We wanted to develop an engaging physics simulation as part of our advanced interface for benchmarking CPUs with our new Physics Test," said Michael Fryer, Software Engineer, PassMark Software, "Using our toolset, you can simulate anything from a collapsing tower of blocks to a massive array of aliens exploding in a low gravity environment."

PC gamers, video editors and developers will appreciate the new DirectX 10 3D test, which objectively ranks all the latest and greatest DirectX 10 compatible video cards. The DirectX 10 test boasts current generation graphical rendering techniques, including Vertex and Pixel Shader 3.0 effects, making it a reliable indicator of high end video card performance.

Availability
Copies of PerformanceTest version 7 are available now from the PassMark Store for $24USD. Customers who have previously purchased PerformanceTest version 6 on or after 24 August 2008 are eligible for a free upgrade.
